Revival at Asbury

I first heard about it from a friend. The next day I saw it on social media and the news. Amid the continuous reports of political unrest, protests, and shootings on school campuses and workplaces, it was unusual to learn of an unplanned revival at Asbury University in Kentucky near Lexington.

I was watching the Tennessee-Alabama basketball game to see if the Tennessee Volunteers (VOLS) could garner a win after two stinging losses. I changed channels to hear the amazing news of the revival that was then on its eighth day and being attended by people from other states and countries. I thought of week-long nightly revivals in the church where I grew up. I thought of how people flooded to churches after 9-11. I tried to imagine the presence of the Holy Spirit in a place where an ordinary day in the school chapel turned into an awesome worship event. I learned that the school's switchboard was getting calls daily, and other chapels were being opened nearby.

The VOLS won, beating No. 1 Alabama! It was a huge game, and I was proud of their resilience. But even bigger is the story of spiritual revival in our land, for it is the game of life that is most important. During these difficult days, may Jesus—the Son of God, our Saviour and Lord—be honored and glorified. May this spiritual revival of prayer, worship, song, and praise at Asbury spread throughout our nation and the world. If ever spiritual renewal is needed, it is now.
